welcome to auburnAuburn, reputed as “Home of the Classics,” was founded by Wesley Park in 1836 and is most widely known for the classic automobiles once manufactured there—and now displayed beautifully at The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum (not on Main Street, but definitely a must-see!). The museum, opened on July 6, 1974, is a National Historical Landmark. The museum alone has had about 2 million visitors— from around the country and worldwide.

A short 30-minute drive north of Fort Wayne, Auburn offers a respite and charm of country life with the allure of boutique shopping and trendy stops for treats of all ages. In short, there’s a lot to offer on the historic Main Street of this town of nearly 13,000. Auburn’s charm extends beyond pleasant busyness of downtown—and it always has it seems.

Back in 1913, people of Auburn began moving residences to Main Street, near where the action happened—and now much of this street is lined with trees, huge historic homes, beautifully manicured landscape, lush yards and an evident pride in small town America.

Walking along Main Street in Auburn stirs a warm, happy, relaxed and homey feeling as a young man plays the guitar outside Jeremiah’s Coffee shop—and the street is lined with freshly planted, vibrant flowers. The locals look happy as they talk to one another while meandering from one store to the next. The atmosphere you feel walking past each unique shop is both relaxing and welcoming.

How to spend a day on Main Street

The Greek-revival style historic courthouse anchors Main Street. Stunning and beautiful, the courthouse was built in 1911 and completed in 1914. Want more history? The Auburn hotel is a beautiful, historic building that still stands today. Visitors and locals alike appreciate its notable charm on Main Street. And maintaining a flair for yesteryear, Main Street is also home to an old-fashioned gas pump station, general store and hardware store.
