No matter how well we plan our holidays sometimes a girl just has to take some time away from the cooking, baking, card sending and decorating to simply decompress. Sure, we could go to the spa and get a massage, but on a cold, wintry night, is there anything on Earth as soothing and re-energizing as a nice hot bubble bath? The best gift you can give yourself this holiday season is a bubble bath retreat. Have a few bubble bath items tucked in your vanity for an evening of bliss—and you’ll be as relaxed as an elf on summer vacation.
Scented or Unscented
If you’re not sure where to begin, start with a vanilla or lavender scent as they are known for their calming qualities. For around $11 Bath and Body Works has an entire line of foaming bath products dedicated to making you feel ahh-mazing. Stress Relief is a eucalyptus spearmint mix while Sleep is an intoxicating mixture of lavender and chamomile.
For those of us who are scent-aversive or allergic to bath product ingredients, Pure Romance has Pure Naked, a line of all natural bath products for around $20. “The Pure Naked line is parabenfree, glycerin-free, fragrance-free and 100 percent natural,” said Brandy Mygrant Advanced Consultant for Pure Romance. “Plus, Pure Naked pampering can continue after the bath with body lotion and body spritz, which features essential oils and vitamins to make your entire body feel refreshed,” Mygrant said.
Luxuriating in the bath is also a great time to use a gel body exfoliator for smoother, healthier skin. Gently rub it all over your body in a circular motion and rinse off. If your skin is on the sensitive side, using shower gel without exfoliator along with a bath lily or bath gloves will have the same effect with less irritation.
Other items to have on hand for bubbly stressrelief are moisturizing face masks, a bath pillow, some quiet music and a favorite beverage. Bring along an inspirational book, nothing brain bending— or heaven forbid, work-related. Go for feelgood books like humorous personal essays, a hot romance or a happy holiday story.
In case you’re thinking about where you’re going to put all this stuff, Umbra has created a Bamboo and Chrome Bathtub Caddy ($50) with a built-in wine glass holder, a book prop and soap dish so you’ll have a place for everything. Dim the lights, light a candle or two, lay back and close your eyes.
Have fun assembling these items, being careful not to make it another holiday chore. Use whatever products you have on hand and add new things while you’re out doing your regularly planned shopping. After a long day, assemble all your goodies, cue the hot water and step into a warm, calm world. Take a long, deep breath, quiet your mind and let the bubbles work their magic. Holiday stress? What holiday stress?
