Local author alert! Sharon Kurtz Hammel is from Kendallville where she is a hospice volunteer and a registered clown with Clowns of America International. Hammell presents the first-person account of Collie, a girl born deaf and mute. Collie, a sign-language teacher, struggles with her handicaps. She teaches Isaiah, an Amish man from Shipshewana who is becoming deaf himself, to communicate with his family. Hammel uses her novel to address the handicap of cultural misunderstanding and the damage it causes. Support local artists by picking up this book.
