Dr. Mat Middleton is in the business of making smiles—that is with a charismatic personality and expertise as a dentist.
Working in Fort Wayne alongside his father and wife, Dr. Mat is a practicing dentist with expertise in cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry. As co-owner of Middleton Family Dentistry, Dr. Mat has been practicing for over five years. He enjoys the work, especially the patient interaction.
“My favorite part of my job is helping patients out of pain and doing my best to improve their smiles,” he said. “When you show patients what you just did in a mirror and their faces light up or (receiving) an unexpected, excited hug or compliment is what I enjoy most.”
That’s his reality today. But it wasn’t that long ago when he was a student. He said he was always drawn to the sciences growing up. He considered the possibility of studying veterinarian science, but later found out it wasn’t for him. Dentistry proved to be his calling.
“I had always looked up to my father growing up and shadowed him at work and everything lined up. I went to dental school and couldn’t be happier,” he said.
Speaking of happy, Dr. Mat is pleased to have the privilege of sharing a love and shared profession with his wife, Connie. The two met while she was in a sorority at DePauw University in Greencastle. He was a waiter at the sorority house, which turned out to be a good move.
“It was a good way to pay for room and board and a great way to meet girls,” he laughed. “We started dating during dental school and married and bought a house as soon as she graduated.”
This dynamic duo enjoys their time in and outside the office together. Mat says he enjoys Fort Wayne and all it has to offer. Both of their families are here and he looks forward to raising future children in the community. In his words, “It is a safe, laid-back town with a friendly Midwestern attitude.”
Mat says he’s lucky to have Connie as both a life and business partner. And he appreciates his father’s mentoring.
“It’s a great part of my job and easy to get along with because we are all interested in the same thing,” he said.
