Life gets busy and we sometimes forget to slow down and take care of matters we may not think of every day, such as home safety. Here’s a checklist of what you need to do to keep your family safe, from safety expert Malorie Williams, owner of a personal/home security store at www.BrassKnightSecurity.com.
Keep your household cleaners in locked cabinets.
Check your smoke detector alarms monthly.
Those alarms usually have a “test” button on them. Change the batteries at least yearly.
Keep garage doors closed. “It’s like giving home invaders an all access pass into your house. You’d be making it easy for your home to be invaded by a criminal,” if you kept it open.
Never leave your child alone in the bath. “You
may be thinking that you’re just going to quickly answer the phone, but a lot can happen in a few
short seconds It’s not worth the risk.”
For homes with firearms, store your gun in a
locked place. Consider storing the ammunition
in a different, locked location.
Pool safety. If you have children, make sure they learn to swim as early as possible. Stress the importance of pool safety and rules.
Often families have no fire extinguisher in the home. Every home needs (at least) one.
